How To Lead As Yourself
How do you bring more of You into how you lead?
I’ve been working with leaders for a long time and that’s a question that continues to fascinate me. So I decided to get curious. In ‘How To Lead as Yourself: insider knowledge from the c-suite’, three senior leaders—Steve Clayton (Microsoft), Sally Croft (Amadeus, Ericsson & Samsung), and Nicholas Creswell (Ørsted & Thomson Reuters)—share candid insights on how they bring authenticity into their leadership.
Their stories reveal useful habits and guiding principles for showing up as yourself and staying human in a corporate world. Here are three things I learned:
Build habits-for-authenticity — Whether it’s Steve’s weekly newsletter, Sally’s Fika sessions, or Nick’s walking meetings, small rituals help leaders stay grounded and human in corporate life.
Show the whole you — Authentic leadership means letting colleagues see beyond the job title. Sharing personal passions, stories, and experiences builds trust, connection, and stronger teams.
Energy comes from being yourself — When leaders stop performing and bring their real interests to work, they gain consistency and clarity—and their teams feel safer, more creative, and more engaged.
